Work Station Tips

Welcome back to fitness Fridays! It seems like forever since I’ve wrote. I want to give you a few quick updates.

Working From Home

As many of us continue to work from home we want to make sure we are protecting our bodies by using proper joint sparing strategies. No one likes headaches, sore shoulders and backs. One way we can do this is by making sure we have good posture while working at our computers or other devices.

The work station-

Is your chair supporting you? Is it adjustable or can we make it fit us!

*Our shoulders should be relaxed down, not up at your ears. Elbows close to your sides. Arms should be parallel to the floor.

*Our back should feel well supported, to do this make sure you are sitting right at the back of the chair. You can roll up a small towel to place behind you for extra support.

*Our thighs should be fully supported on the seat and feet touching the floor, if they don’t reach you may need to place something under such as a box or stack of books.

*The monitors should be eye level, you may need to put a stand under or a few books to raise it up, especially if you are using a laptop. If using a laptop you may want to purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse so you are able to keep these positions.

*Keyboard and mouse should be close enough that you aren’t leaning forward to reach them.

Remember to take little breaks during your day. Set a timer and every 20 minutes stand up, do a stretch or walk around. Your body will thank you.

Garden Update

We were blessed with a beautiful harvest of vegetables this season especially tomatoes. I’ve never eaten so many toasted tomato sandwiches as I have this summer. On top of sharing with family, friends, coworkers and neighbors, we also canned 40 large jars of tomatoes and froze some too. We made lots of tomato sauce and salsa. Believe it or not I didn’t even get any cankers!

Exercise Class Update

The Health Centre is offering exercises classes virtually! This means you need a device like a computer, laptop, tablet but if you don’t we still have you covered. I’ll be teaching a telephone class as well. All you need is to be able to put your phone on speaker. We hope you are interested in joining us for this new experience. If you have questions you can call 519-664-3794 ext. 239 or check out the website to register!

As always take care and keep moving.

Laurie
